Cinco de Mayo in Destin

As May rolls in, excitement builds for one of the year’s most festive holidays: Cinco de Mayo! Historically, Cinco de Mayo is a celebration on May 5th (if you couldn’t tell) where Mexico celebrates its triumph over the French in the Battle of Puebla. Today, it is a day of celebration for Mexican-American heritage and culture, and we’ve got the perfect spot for you to celebrate down here in Destin, Florida! From food, to friends, to fun in the sun, Destin has activities for everyone, so read below about how to celebrate the perfect Cinco de Mayo in sunny Destin.

Activities in Destin!

Going to Crab Island by Boat Rental

Celebrate Cinco de Mayo in a unique way by going to Crab Island in Destin, Florida, on a pontoon rental. Crab Island is an amazing sandbar located right in the heart of Destin. People from all over flock around to witness the beautiful turquoise waters of Crab Island. Visiting Crab Island is a perfect all day activity that will have you feeling festive and fun! Rent a pontoon, grab your friends and head over to Destin to celebrate Cinco de Mayo in your own way!

Another fun fact about Cinco de Mayo is that it lands on a Sunday this year, so it’s a perfect time to make some weekend plans and head over to Crab Island on one of our  Destin pontoon rentals. This is the perfect time of the year to go because the weather is warm, the water is blue, and the sun is shining all day. Plus, while you’re aboard one of our boat rentals, you can bring personal items too like snacks and drinks. We recommend you bring a waterproof camera, snacks, water toys, towels, sunglasses, an ice chest, a speaker, and of course lots and lots of sunscreen. Make the day your own by customizing your trip, whether it’s a bachelorette party, or a family occasion, our boat rentals will make sure you have an unforgettable time at Crab Island.

Parasailing

Have you ever been Parasailing? Well, if you’re not afraid of heights then this is the activity for you. Try something new this Cinco de Mayo and soar in the sky on a parachute being tugged by a boat. Enjoy the stellar sights of Destin and the Gulf of Mexico from a bird’s eye view. Be brave and do something you will never forget with an aerial adventure, and make sure to keep your eyes peeled for any dolphins that may appear while you’re up there.

Jet Ski

Another super fun activity to try out this Cinco de Mayo is jet skiing. Jet skis are a great way to make the most out of any beach adventure and explore the ocean waters. Again, you can either ride alone or in pairs, but no more than two people can be on a jet ski. Reach up to 50 miles an hour on a thrilling jet ski ride around the clear emerald waters of Destin. Hopping on a jet ski and riding the waves is a great way to spend Cinco de Mayo, and after your adventure, hit the beach bars for some margaritas!

Restaurants to Visit on Cinco de Mayo

Mezcal Mexican Grill

Mexican food is obviously non-negotiable when celebrating Cinco de Mayo. Celebrate Cinco de Mayo correctly and visit the Mezcal Mexican Grill. During Cinco de Mayo, this restaurant goes all out! There is live Latin music all day, a live DJ, and amazing food. This indoor-outdoor dining venue allows you to spend your Cinco de Mayo dancing, drinking, and chowing down on delicious Mexican food. Great food, refreshing drinks, and live music, what else could be a better way to celebrate?

Margaritaville

With a name like Margaritaville, you know they are getting down on Cinco de Mayo. Margaritaville is famously known for the Jimmy Buffett song, Margaritaville. This place has all kinds of different Mexican food so your options are endless! For Cinco de Mayo, make sure to get a traditional margarita.  The best thing about going to Margaritaville on Cinco de Mayo is the specialty margarita that they make to celebrate Cinco de Mayo. Last year’s celebration consisted of $6 house margaritas, a $12 Landshark Lager, and a Casamigos Sidecar. You could also add a Casamigos Sidecar to any margarita for only $6. Make sure to try one of these delicious cocktails out while celebrating Cinco de Mayo!

La Paz Restaurante & Cantina

Another great Mexican restaurant in Destin is La Paz Restaurante & Cantina. This restaurant offers a delicious combo of traditional Mexican cuisine and Tex-Mex style dishes. The food is fresh and their seafood dishes are hand picked from the catch of the day at the Harbor Docks Seafood Market. They have the best fish tacos you will ever have in your life. Besides fish, they also have delicious street tacos, enchiladas, fajitas, and of course chips and guac. Like the other mentioned restaurants, La Paz also goes all out on Cinco de Mayo with live music, $5 dollar margaritas, and a dance floor! Celebrate correctly at La Paz and dance your shoes off this Cinco de Mayo!

Boathouse Oyster Bar

If you want to try something different on Cinco de Mayo, try out the Boathouse Oyster Bar. We know Mexican food isn’t for everyone so if you want good ol’ classic seafood then the Boathouse Oyster Bar is the place to go. Located in the Destin Harbor, this classic restaurant offers delicious burgers, salads, and of course fresh seafood. The best part about this place is the gorgeous view of the harbor. So enjoy your meal with a view! Funny enough, Boathouse Oyster Bar also celebrates Cinco de Mayo, they bring out a Patron team, and have interactive events. For example, you can make your own Patron margarita on a blender bike where you pedal to blend your margarita. You can also blend a daiquiri if you don’t like margaritas. There are a bunch of other great deals as well going on during Cinco de Mayo so make sure to give this place a visit if you’re in Destin.
